<hi style=afpcap>When it first entered service, the B-1B had a strategic role only, and has only recently been adapted to conventional bombing. The B-1B is powered by four 30,000-kg thrust General Electric F101-GE-102 turbofan engines. Pilot and co-pilot are side-by-side and the B-1B is flown much like a fighter, using a stick and rudder pedals. But it has no head-up display and needs none for its low-level, terrain-following bomb mission.</hi>
